Guide for measuring your shaped windows
In the case of circular and semicircular windows we will take the width of the opening and assume that the window is a true arch, using the measurement provided as the diameter. If your opening is not a true arch, then we will require a template before manufacture. You can check whether your semicircular window is a true arch by measuring the height, In the case of a true arch this will be half of the width, if this is not the case, we will require a template.
Windows are usually measured from the brick to brick opening from the outside of the property, always in millimetres (mm).
Firstly, measure the width of the bottom of the shaped aperture brickwork to brickwork and deduct approximately 10mm from your measurement.
Once you have input your measurements the measuring page will generate the height of your shape (unless you are able to input this), Check this measurement against the highest point of your opening remembering to include any cills.
Most windows sit on a cill, if so then please measure from underneath the existing cill unless it's not removable (e.g. stone).
Please note: If your property is rendered then it's a good idea to remove some of the render in order to view the brickwork edge. Depending on the thickness of your render you may require frame extenders.- Measure from outside, brickwork to brickwork.
- If that is not possible, measure your existing window.
- Provide us with the overall window sizes including cills or extenders/add-ons (except stone cills or if you're ordering windows without cills).
- If in doubt when measuring a shaped frame, we can manufacture your window from a template of the opening.
If in doubt, we recommend to consult a professional installer/builder.
