Important!
Extenders do not add to the overall width/height of the window.
By choosing extenders the frame will be made slightly smaller, in order to keep the overall width/height including the extender the same as your measurements.
Alternatively, if you wish to add an extender in addition to the overall width/height you measured, please choose the extender and leave a note at checkout.

Pole eyes

Allow the use of a pole (not supplied) to help open and close the top sash of any sliding windows that are just too high to reach by hand.

Manufactured from solid die cast zinc with a resilient surface finish and an sculptured ergonomic design.

For windows less than 1000mm in width, 1 pole eye will be supplied loose. For over 1000mm width, 2 loose pole eyes will be supplied. They can be fitted wherever you prefer on the top rail of the top sash.

Slim midrail

The slim midrail is more than 10mm slimmer than its standard counterpart, it’s considered more authentic, matching the midrail on traditional Victorian sash windows.

  • Authentic appearance.
  • Ideal for conservation areas.
  • Perfect timber alternative.
  • Sleek streamlined profile.
  • Elegant sight lines.

Travel restrictors

Discretely routed on the sides of the top sash the restrictors limit the opening of the sash for child safety, preventing the travel of the sash beyond about 10cm. To comply with building codes, a restrictor is fitted to both sides of the sash. It's easy to retract the restrictors allowing the sashes to slide open fully.

These restrictors are keyless, so can be used for fire-exits.

D-handles

An optional handle fitted at the outside of the sash window at the underside of the top sash, used for pulling the top sash down, once access is gained by tilting the lower sash inwards.

One D-handle is fitted centrally for windows under 1200mm wide, and two spaced equally for windows wider than 1200mm.

D-handles will be the same colour as chosen for the locks.

Bottom Rail

These sash windows can come with a normal bottom rail, or a "deep" bottom rail to mimic the timber sash window look as much as possible.
If you prefer the look of an original timber window the deep bottom rail is a great option to imitate the appearance of the timber sash windows of old.

Shoulder height

The shoulder height for a swept-head arched window is the distance from the bottom of the window to where the arch starts as shown in the image:

Hardware

Hardware range and locations:

Locks: engineered for strength and premium security for vertical sliding windows. Simply turn the lever or the key to release the cam from its keep. With colour coordinated screws. In standard or heritage form. With or without a key.

Knobs: made of a solid die cast zinc construction. Used to tilt the bottom sash. In standard or heritage form.

Lift hooks: enable the lower sash to be pulled and slid upwards.

Window colours

Available in many colours, including stunning authentic woodgrains to bring your windows to life with a glossy, realistic timber effect.

For a true personalised touch, a bespoke colour service is available in your desired RAL colour with either a smooth or woodgrain finish.

Some colours need approximately 4 weeks extra for delivery. Please see the colour selection pop-up.

Please note that on windows with a woodgrain finish externally and smooth white finish internally the top sash is not able to tilt.

Disclaimer: we cannot guarantee to match existing colours. If you need a colour match, please email us with your address and ask for a sample of the colour you need.

Fire escape

Windows for fire escapes must provide an unobstructed opening of at least 0.33m².

An improved mechanism for slightly wider opening of the sash window.

Fire escape windows should not have a lock on them.

Habitable rooms require fire escapes, Building regs.

Corner options

Standard sash welds:

Typical 45° mitre weld finish. The ends of the frames are cut diagonally at 45° so they come together in a 90° angle. The outer frames will still be mechanical as a free upgrade.

Mechanical sash joints:

Sash frame ends are joined at 90°, replicating the handcrafted appearance of the original corner joints of traditional timber windows.

Free outer frame upgrade to mechanical joints!

Now mechanical timber looking joints as standard for the outer frame, for an authentic finish that carefully disguises the UPVC. Excluding arched and swept head windows.
If you wish to have diagonal welds to match older UPVC windows please leave a note at checkout.

Sash horns

Enhance your window by choosing fantastic run-through horns. These horns are mechanically jointed to allow the horn to be a continuous part of the sash.
These run-through horns are a great option to replicate the original style of the traditional timber sash windows.

Weather bar

Optionally an innovative ovolo shaped weather bar that not only offers authentic period aesthetics but also adds another level of defence against rain and wind.

PAS 24 security

Enhanced security PAS 24:2016 security standard that can only be achieved once a product has been tested to demonstrate enhanced protection against various types of attack. Intended to resist the levels and methods of attack experienced in Britain.

Building Regulations compliant, if laminated/acoustic glazing has been chosen for easily accessible windows.

Choosing PAS 24 will add premium locks, top sash security blocks, upgraded latches and keep.

Integrated cill

Sash windows incorporate a fixed bottom cill with an upstand at the end. The cill is integrated and actually forms the bottom part of the window frame.

Two cill depths are available:

150mm cill: When no projection is needed, for example if the window sits on top of an existing stone cill.

210mm cill: If the window requires a projecting cill to drain water away.

Trickle vent

Vents are placed at the top of the top sash to allow limited airflow without having to open the window. They help to control outside air flow reducing condensation and mould.

The vent comes with a flap that can be opened and closed.

Available in smooth and woodgrain finishes colour-matched to the sash frame.

Please take care not to damage the vent when sliding the lower sash up.

Vents are important to help with compliance with the new Part F regulations.

Depending on the window width a small 2500mm² EA (Equivalent Area) vent or a larger 5000mm² EA vent will be supplied.
Please click on the image for dimensions:

Building Regulations apply to ventilation.

Fixing brackets

Optional fixing brackets are available. Screws are not supplied.

Available in standard or long for new-builds as illustrated:

Spacer bar

Every double glazed unit, has spacer bars between the glass panes. In this case it's a warm edge spacer bar made from extruded PVC material designed to reduce transference of heat between the panes of glass keeping more heat inside the property.

Available in black, grey or white.

Please note: on arched windows, only black spacer bars are available.

Apart from clear glass, we offer 6 obscure types with a privacy level from 0 (clear) to 6 (solid).

Georgian Bars

Astragal bars: these are the perfect addition to any Georgian window. Astragal bars are fitted onto the window glazing internally and externally. They will give the window a classic appearance and the illusion of multiple panes of glass. These external astragal bars match the profile of the window and they are 20mm thick.

Astragal bars example

Internal bars: will also create the appearance of separate panes. These 18mm thick bars are inside the glass unit making the windows easier to clean.

Instructions:

Please choose your own number of horizontal and vertical Georgian squares, or leave it on automatic where the actual layout will be set according to best practice.

Or choose the special drop down list for special layouts.

Small adjustments to align the bars between panes will be done at the factory.

For custom layouts please leave a note at checkout.

Glazing choices

Standard double-glazing

The 24mm insulated glass units are double glazed with an argon gas insert as standard to reduce the heat conductance between the glass panes. With 4mm clear glass on the outside and 4mm clear Low E glass on the inside, as well as a warm edge spacer bar.

Acoustic/laminated glazing

Soundproofing glazing is ideal for significantly reducing noise from road, rail or air traffic, factories or nightclubs. Noise is reflected back towards the source and also absorbed within the glass.

The outer pane features two 3mm pieces of glass that are laminated together with a noise reducing interlayer.

Being laminated it is also very secure and difficult to break into.

With a 6.8mm thick laminated pane on the outside, suitable for PAS 24 security.

Frame extenders

A frame extender allows to increase the thickness of the window at a specified side. Great for properties with deep plaster, render or tiles over tiles. 15mm, 30mm or 50mm extensions available.

Some fitters buy extenders as a precaution, for example where the window opening has not been built yet. Extenders can be modified to accomodate inconsistent side walls.

Extenders simply clip or slide on the window profile as you can see the picture.

Important: The thickness of any chosen extenders is included in the chosen window width/height.

If you wish to add an extender without automatically decreasing your window's width or height please add a note at checkout.

Glass safety

We supply 3 strengths of glass:

Standard: Normal glass, which is dangerous when broken as it breaks in large sharp pieces.

Toughened: Specially treated to increase its strength and safety.
If broken, toughened glass breaks into many small pieces therefore it's less likely to cause injury.

Laminated: Our strongest glass, similar to a car's windscreen, has a laminated layer that keeps the glass together when broken, making it very difficult to break into. Please choose Acoustic glass to enable laminated glazing.

Windows near floors & doors require Toughened glass, Building Regulations.
